Graduate Parmik Tomar, who works in the Supply Chain, tell us how he has flourished in his new role as a graduate:
My interest in joining the graduate programme at SZC was sparked during my master’s degree, where I studied an Operations & Supply Chain module that opened my eyes to the complexity and importance of supply chain functions. When I came across the opportunity to be part of the Supply Chain team on a major infrastructure project like Sizewell C, I knew it was the perfect chance to apply my academic learning in a real-world setting.
Since joining, the most rewarding part of my experience has been gaining hands-on exposure to procurement and contract management. As someone new to these areas, I’ve found it fascinating to work with the tools and processes that underpin supplier relationships and commercial operations. These experiences have deepened my understanding and helped me grow professionally, particularly through the CIPS Level 4 application programme, which is building my theoretical foundation while showing me how those concepts are applied in practice.
Of course, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Early on, I struggled with organising information and staying on top of tasks and follow-ups. To overcome this, I began using Planner to structure my workflow and focused on understanding different working styles to integrate more effectively with the team. These adjustments have made a significant difference in how I manage my responsibilities.
If I could offer advice to someone just starting the programme, it would be to structure your notes from the beginning. There’s a lot to take in, and having a clear system for capturing and revisiting information will help you stay grounded. I also wish I had known how to filter what’s most relevant to my role early on, it would have helped me avoid feeling overwhelmed during the initial phase.
Overall, this programme has been a transformative experience, giving me the tools, confidence, and insight to build a meaningful career in supply chain management.
